Welcome to AGNeS: The Axbridge Good Neighbours Scheme
The scheme has been set up by Axbridge Action Group (AAG) – an established group of local people who care passionately about Axbridge and what it means to our residents. We always strive to work in partnership with the Town Council, Town Trust and others. AAG members recognised that the COVID 19 crisis has focussed the drive and goodwill from our community to connect with people in need and have generated the Axbridge Good Neighbours Scheme to enhance our community.
Working together for a stronger community
Our beautiful and historic town enjoys a strong community spirit, where people regularly come together to socialise, worship and support each other, as well as organise some wonderful events.
During the pandemic, the kindness of neighbours has shone through time and again. Arguably the biggest lesson we have all learned from the pandemic is that we all need each other, and certainly, the connections between us are what make us what we are as a town.
Now is the time, we think, to look into the future and build upon that.
We know that there is a massive well of goodwill and willingness to help each other within Axbridge. We also know that, for some of us, reaching out is not always straightforward.
“AGNeS” has been setup to build on the amazing work already being undertaken in the town, seeing where there might be gaps, encouraging more people to get involved, and acting as a bridge between those who want to support others in a range of ways.
If you would appreciate a friendly phone call at a difficult time, helping a housebound person keep in touch with the outside world, practical assistance with dog walking if we’ve sprained an ankle or collecting a prescription if we are too poorly to leave the house.
Some people may already receive some help; yet others may not know how to get assistance… which is where we might be able to help directly or through signposting – through our links with other groups in the town, Community Council Somerset and our village agent. All of our team will understand about safeguarding, keeping information secure and being discreet in all we might help with. If you need some help then please call 07743 757457.
We are very open to ideas about the sort of help that could be provided and welcome all (constructive!) suggestions.
Can you play a part?
AGNeS consists of a small coordination team alongside some further willing volunteers: we continue to flesh out what AGNeS might look like longer term. If you would like to chat about you, or the organisation you represent, being involved, please just get in touch on 07743 757457. We will also be keeping everyone informed of developments on the local Facebook community pages.
